Helpers Needed for Beach Cleanup 2000

Volunteers are needed for Ventura County Beach Cleanup 2000, to be held Sept. 16 at more than a dozen locations throughout Ventura County.

The cleanup effort, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, is part of an annual statewide event organized by the California Coastal Commission’s Adopt-a-Beach Program.

Trash will be removed from above and below the waterline, and divers who wish to collect trash underwater are encouraged to bring their own equipment.

The locations and meeting areas are:

* Oil Piers Beach. Take Ventura Freeway north past Ventura, exit at Seacliff and take the frontage road one mile north, go under pedestrian underpass and meet by stairs.

* Rincon Parkway. Take Ventura Freeway north past Ventura, exit State Beaches, take the frontage road a half-mile. Meet at Emma Wood State Beach entrance.

* Emma Wood Group Camp. Meet at the Main Street entrance to Emma Wood State Beach.

* San Buenaventura State Beach. Meet by the snack shop at the San Pedro Street entrance.

* Seaward Beach. Meet on the beach at the end of Seaward Avenue.

* Surfer’s Knoll. Meet at the parking lot on Spinnaker Drive across from Ventura Harbor Village.

* McGrath State Beach. Meet in the McGrath State Beach parking lot, just past the kiosk.

* Oxnard Shores. Meet at the basketball court on Neptune Court, off Mandalay Beach Road.

* Hollywood Beach. Meet at the south end of the beach off Ocean Drive in Oxnard.

* Silver Strand Beach. Meet at the north end of the beach, off San Nicolas Avenue and Ocean Drive.

* Hueneme Beach. Meet on the south side of the Pier, off Surfside Drive and Ventura Road in Port Hueneme.

* Ormond Beach. Meet at the Southern California Edison Plant off Hueneme Road and Edison Road.

Inland Waterway Cleanup meeting areas will be:

* Fagan Barranca. Across from the Santa Paula Cemetery on Santa Paula Street.

* Moorpark. Meet at Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road.

* Thousand Oaks. Meet at Borchard Park, behind the tennis courts, on the corner of Borchard and Reino roads.
