Gridlock

This editorial shows major ignorance on the part of the writer, who furthers a common misuse of the word “gridlock.”
Gridlock defines a specific situation within a grid of streets, such as downtown Los Angeles. The traffic is so heavy that it does not move out of the intersection during its time, blocking the cross traffic from moving, which, when it finally gets a chance, then blocks the intersection on its turn.
It is impossible to have gridlock on a freeway, which has no grid at all. Please use other terms that give the accurate picture, such as congestion.
