Mutiny’s Quill Gets Two in Tie With the Wizards

Tampa Bay’s Eric Quill scored two goals to help the Mutiny tie the Kansas City Wizards, 2-2, Saturday night before 12,776 at Tampa, Fla.

Mamadou Diallo of the Mutiny was held without a goal and finished the regular season with a league-leading 26. Diallo was robbed twice from point-blank range by goalkeeper Tony Meola.

Diallo was one short of Roy Lassiter’s MLS record of 27 goals set in 1996.

The Galaxy plays Tampa Bay in the first round of the playoffs Thursday.

Dallas 2, San Jose 1--Chad Deering’s goal in the 89th minute secured the Burn a spot in the playoffs with the win over the Earthquakes before 14,833 in Dallas.

Dallas will face third-seeded New York-New Jersey in the opening round of the playoffs.

New England 4, New York-New Jersey 3--Midfielder Joe Franchino scored his first two goals of the season as the Revolution beat the Eastern Division champions in front of 20,419 at Foxboro, Mass.

Miami 6, Washington 2--Diego Serna had three goals and an assist to spark a five-goal second half as the Fusion tied a league record for goals in one half by a team before 18,893 at Washington.

Chicago 3, Columbus 2--Mike Sorber scored in the 90th minute to give the Fire a win over the Crew after the Fire blew a two-goal lead in front of 24,347 at Columbus.
