Attorney to Lead Airport Council

The Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council has elected Coby King as its new president.

King will serve a one-year term. Two years ago, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick appointed King to the 18-member council, which advises the Board of Airport Commissioners.

King, who is an attorney, said he plans to balance the concerns of the airport operators with those of residents opposed to excessive noise.

“There are members of goodwill and integrity on virtually every issue that comes before the council,” said the 39-year-old Encino resident. “I am confident that by bringing people together we can achieve some progress on these issues.”

King, who is active in the Jewish Federation and Democratic Party politics, added that he plans to establish committees or task forces to come up with solutions for airport problems.

“A fresh look needs to be taken to reduce some of the airport’s noise on residents,” he said, adding that residents complain about noise at every council monthly meeting.

King said the council also needs to address the airport’s master plan process and the improvement and expansion of the FlyAway bus service from Van Nuys Airport to Los Angeles International Airport.

King, who owns a communications company in downtown Los Angeles, also practices election and government law for the firm Smith Kaufman in downtown Los Angeles.
