Newport Corp.’s Deals Amount to $18 Million

Newport Corp., a precision components maker, said Friday that it has received orders worth $18 million for chip-testing equipment from several undisclosed semiconductor equipment manufacturers. The Irvine manufacturer said in a news release that the orders for high-precision motion-control mechanics and vibration/optics control systems should be filled within the next 12 months. Shares of Newport lost $4.50 Friday to close at $153.50 a share in Nasdaq trading.
