Five months after taking the job on an interim basis, Dr. Ralph Cygan Friday was named director of UC Irvine Medical Center.

Cygan, 53, has been a faculty member at the UCI College of Medicine for more than 20 years, holding a variety of positions.

“We performed a rigorous national search for this very important position, and found that the most qualified candidate was right here at UCI,” Chancellor Ralph J. Cicerone said in a news release.
