Alabama (1-2) has taken one of the more amazing journeys out of The Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was released Sunday.

Ranked No. 3 in the preseason, the Crimson Tide dropped to No. 13 after its season-opening loss at UCLA. A victory over Vanderbilt a week later had Alabama drop to No. 15, and Saturday’s 21-0 loss to Southern Mississippi knocked the Crimson Tide out completely.

The last time something similar occurred was 1984, when Pittsburgh was No. 3 in the preseason, fell to No. 17 after opening with a loss and two polls later was out of the rankings.

Navy quarterback Brian Broadwater will be sidelined four to six weeks after fracturing his larynx in Saturday’s loss to Georgia Tech. Broadwater was hit in the throat, and the severity of the injury appeared to worsen after he entered the locker room after the game.
