Southern California gas prices have soared to record levels, mirroring higher worldwide oil prices as summer winds to a close. Self-serve regular fuel settled at $1.81 this week, up 15 cents from August, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. The club’s monthly Fuel Gauge Report, released Tuesday, is based on a survey of 2,800 gas stations.
