PLACENTIA
Mayor Michael L. Maertzweiler proclaimed Oct. 8-14 Fire Prevention Week. The proclamation came at the request of the Orange County Fire Authority.
The proclamation commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In 1911 the Fire Marshals Assn. of North America suggested holding a fire prevention day Oct. 9. In 1922, President Harding proclaimed the first fire prevention week.
