Coleman to Miss Four to Six Weeks

Share

Defensive end Kenyon Coleman is expected to miss four to six weeks after arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. Doctors also removed two screws that had been inserted into the knee during an operation in high school.

That timetable would allow Coleman to return this season. However, Coach Bob Toledo said, “We’re not counting on him right now.”

If rehabilitation progresses quickly, Coleman could return as early as the Bruins’ seventh game, Oct. 21 vs. Oregon State. Coleman also could opt for a medical redshirt year, sitting out the rest of this season should he decide he cannot regain his status as a top NFL prospect.

“We’ll talk when he gets healed,” Toledo said. “There’s no reason to make any decision right now.”

Instead of drenching the field in noise to prepare his players for the rowdy crowd in Eugene, Toledo opted for what he called “whisper drills,” forcing his players to pay attention to snap counts in relative silence.

“I don’t like those blaring speakers,” Toledo said. “They give me headaches, and the people in Beverly Hills get mad at me.”
