San Diego Horizon 27, Calvary Chapel 7--Robert Ortiz caught touchdown passes of 37 and 18 yards in the first half to lead visiting Horizon at Westminster High.

Horizon quarterback Cameron Poeschel passed for 238 yards in the opening half to help the visitors a 14-0 halftime lead. Horizon had 311 yards in the first half, but four turnovers prevented the Panthers from causing more damage.

Calvary Chapel (2-1) scored its only touchdown on the third play of the second half when Andy Avila ran 81 yards for a touchdown. Avila finished with 121 yards rushing in 13 carries.

Horizon (2-1) took a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter when a Poeschel pass, intended for Jason Holmes, bounced off three players before being caught by Zac Jara, who ran into the end zone for an 18-yard scoring play.

Alex Haynes kicked field goals of 25 and 27 yards in the fourth quarter for Horizon.

Interceptions by Calvary Chapel’s Blake West in the end zone and Cory Lange on the one-yard line helped keep Horizon from scoring more. Eric Calas, Justin Calas and Lange also recovered fumbles for Calvary Chapel.

Poeschel completed 18 of 32 passes for 331 yards.
