Opportunities for Volunteers Abound

Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers to help at Walt Disney Elementary School. Participants assist teachers, do clerical duties and serve as translators.

Volunteers are also needed to work at the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s information table.

In Burbank, participants are needed to supervise bowling programs for the Glendale Assn. for the Retarded at the Pickwick Bowl.

The Muscular Dystrophy Assn. is seeking volunteers for the fund-raising Lock-up program, in which donors face mock arrests. Participants play arresting officers, mug-shot photographers and patrol car drivers. The next Lock-up event is Thursday at the Canyon Cafe, 146 S. Brand Blvd. in Glendale. There will be another event Oct. 26 at the Burbank Bar and Grill, 112 N. San Fernando Blvd. Volunteers may work during morning or afternoon shifts or all day. The association also needs help at a black-tie dinner and auction at the Hyatt Valencia hotel in Valencia Nov. 17, from 5 to 10 p.m.

The East Valley Multipurpose Center in North Hollywood needs volunteers for several positions: nutrition site coordinator, kitchen assistant, basic Internet instructor, quilting instructor, Spanish-speaking activities coordinator, multiethnic, cross-generational chorus program leader and exercise instructor for seniors.
