Moorpark sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old Oxnard boy early Wednesday on suspicion of auto theft.
Authorities said deputies arrested the teenager after pulling him over during a traffic stop at 12:40 a.m. near the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Tierra Rejada Road.
He told deputies he did not have a driver’s license, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies said they then noticed damage to the car’s steering column and saw no keys in the car’s ignition.
The driver’s name was not released because he is a juvenile.
The car’s owner, a Simi Valley resident, said the 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass had been taken without permission from outside his home a few hours earlier.
A background check later revealed that the driver was on probation for attempted robbery, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.
