Share

The Humane Society of Ventura County will expand its pet adoption service in Ventura to two Saturdays a month beginning Oct. 14.

The nonprofit organization will offer cats and dogs for adoption from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month at the Wharf, a western and farm supply store at 980 E. Front St.

Animals are also available for adoption Mondays through Saturdays at the group’s Ojai shelter at 402 Bryant St., said Tim Dewar, a spokesman for the Humane Society.

People wishing to adopt an animal must show proof of home ownership or a lease agreement stating they are allowed to have a pet. Yard checks will also be performed before any dogs are released, Dewar said.

Adoption fees are $15 for cats and $20 for dogs. Spaying and neutering are also required. The cost: $25 for male cats, $30 for female cats and $50 for dogs.
