Titans Make Sweeping Statement in Florida

Cal State Fullerton’s baseball team did something Sunday that hadn’t been done in 28 years.
The Titans’ 9-2 victory over fourth-ranked Miami in front of 1,549 fans marked the first time since 1973 that the Hurricanes had been swept in a three-game series at Mark Light Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla.
Kirk Saarloos (7-2) pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two runs. He finished with eight strikeouts.
Chris Stringfellow and Shawn Norris each had three hits and two RBIs, and P.J. Pilittere added two hits and three RBIs for 24th-ranked Cal State Fullerton (19-10), which took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
The Titan offense rocked Hurricane pitcher Tom Farmer (6-2) for 15 hits and eight runs in six innings.
Miami dropped to 25-9.
In Big West Conference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 8, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 0 (5)--Christy Robitaille allowed four hits and struck out four for the Titans (33-10, 6-0). Jenny Topping walked twice, giving her 40, a single-season school record.
