Deputies Kill Man Who Had Knife

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic dispute in Bellflower shot and killed a man who threatened them with a butcher knife Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the scene of a family disturbance at a residence on the 9800 block of Walnut Street shortly after midnight.

When they arrived, they were confronted by a man wielding the knife, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Westin, a department spokesman.

As deputies tried to subdue the man, they were attacked and shot him several times, Westin said.

The man, whose name was withheld by the Sheriff’s Department, was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No deputies were injured.
