Unique ensembles keep popping up. The Cleveland Duo consists of violinists Stephen and Carolyn Warner, members of the Cleveland Orchestra. (Carolyn Warner is also staff pianist for the orchestra.) They team up with virtuoso saxophonist James Umble to play original works and transcriptions of music by composers ranging from Brahms to Bartok. Their program is part of the free Fullerton Friends of Music series, now in its 42nd season.

Film

As part of its weekend-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first manned space flight (Yuri Gagarian, April 12, 1961) and the 20th anniversary of the first space shuttle flight (April 12, 1981), the Orange County Space Society will host special screenings of the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” in the Weingart Foundation Auditorium of the Discovery Science Center. Seating is limited to 125 people per screening; tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for the Saturday afternoon show will be distributed from 2 to 3 p.m. during a space society lecture. Tickets for the Sunday morning screening will be available at the door when the center opens at 10 a.m.
