Saddleback’s DiMartino Wins Tennis Title

Saddleback’s David DiMartino defeated teammate Jon Lippert, 6-0, 6-2, to win the men’s singles title in the Orange Empire Conference tennis tournament Friday at Orange Coast College.

Lippert had advanced with a semifinal victory over Arif Hasan, another Saddleback player.

DiMartino won his semifinal by default over Irvine Valley’s Ian Flores, leaving Saddleback players as the only participants Friday at Orange Coast College.

In doubles, DiMartino teamed with Chris Mark to defeat Lippert and Hasan, 6-3, 7-5.

In the Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis tournament:

Sommer wins--Orange Coast’s Veronica Sommer defeated teammate Stephanie Chang, 6-4, 6-4, to win the conference singles title at Saddleback College.

Sommer and Chang joined forces to defeat Lena Bowen and Janet Suthisanphat of Saddleback, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, in the doubles final.

In nonconference baseball:

Long Beach 3, Santa Ana 2 (12 innings)--Brandon Edwards’ two-out, two-strike single in the bottom of the 12th inning scored Juan Hernandez with the winning run as the Vikings (18-11) won their sixth consecutive game, beating the top-ranked team in Southern California.

Santa Ana is 24-5.
