Injury to Tailbone Sidelines Odom

For the first time this season, the Clippers’ Lamar Odom was too hurt to play and sat out Saturday night’s game against San Antonio at Staples Center.

Odom, who suffered a bruised tailbone after a collision with Milwaukee’s Ervin Johnson before being ejected in Friday’s overtime victory over Milwaukee, warmed up before the game but decided he wouldn’t be helping the team if he played against the Spurs.

“I don’t feel that good,” said Odom, who did not participate in the team’s morning shoot-around.

Clipper Coach Alvin Gentry said getting Odom to sit out is not an easy thing to do. Odom has already played in games despite injuries to his wrist, back, quadriceps, groin, ankle and both knees.

“That’s the thing about Lamar, he thinks he can play even if he had a broken leg,” Gentry said. “That’s why I laugh about all of the teams who talk about their guys being hurt. I guarantee you there isn’t a guy in the league more banged up than [Odom]. . . . But every night he plays.”

Odom, who has 14 technical fouls, is not expected to be suspended for his actions after his ejection on Friday. But Odom does acknowledge frustration over calls that do not go in his favor.

“I don’t think I deserved to get thrown out of [Friday’s] game but I didn’t make it look any better by responding like I did,” Odom said. “I just feel we’ve been playing hard the whole year, and they can’t take that away from us. This is a different team than [Clipper teams of the past]. You have to look at the games a little different. I’m not saying [the officials] have been bad, but we just want the game to be called both ways.”

After tying a career high with 26 points against Milwaukee, rookie Darius Miles struggled with three points and one rebound in 12 minutes. He had to leave the game in the final seconds because of a dislocated right shoulder and is listed as day to day.

The Clippers Foundation presented nearly $55,000 in donations to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles from proceeds raised in a charity bowling event held March 24 at Keystone Lanes in Norwalk. The event raised more than $110,000.
