* Harvard Bioscience Inc. may continue to use its name despite the objections of Harvard University, a federal judge has decided. In denying the university’s request for a preliminary injunction to bar the company’s use of the name, U.S. District Judge Richard Stearns directed the company to avoid using the Harvard name in the crimson color or in a font similar to that used by the university. Shares of Harvard Bioscience, based in Holliston, Mass., rose 15 cents to close at $6.05 on Nasdaq.

* Harley-Davidson Inc. said its first-quarter earnings rose 15% to $92 million, or 30 cents a share, a penny better than analysts expected, as revenue grew 13% to $767.3 million. The motorcycle maker also said it has increased its second-quarter production target to 59,000 units because of strong demand.

* Casual dining chain Ruby Tuesday Inc. said earnings rose 33% to $18.2 million, or 28 cents a share, in its fiscal third quarter, a penny better than analysts expected. Revenue grew 5% to $188 million, and sales at its outlets open at least a year advanced 6.5%.

* Gillette Co. provided revised income statements for 1999 and 2000, but said the accounting changes would have no effect on its overall profit. The revision reflects Gillette’s adoption of accounting changes for sales incentives, a new oral care business segment and other internal adjustments.
