Sid Newman; Had Post-Retirement Acting Career

Sid Newman, 81, who became a character actor on “Seinfeld” and other television programs during his retirement years. Spotted by a talent scout in his youth, Newman had a brief career in Hollywood, appearing in “Mickey McGuire” shorts and the 1944 motion picture “Meet Me in St. Louis.” But for much of his life he operated Clinical-Medical Laboratory with his brother. Retired by the 1990s, he returned to the sound stage, appearing as Gabe in the 1993 movie “The Beverly Hillbillies” and as Frank in the 1998 comedy “The Wedding Singer.” On television, Newman became the recurring character Sid on “The Larry Sanders Show” from 1992 to 1998. He was also cast as an old man on “Seinfeld” and on “Two Guys and a Girl” and as a security guard for a few episodes of “Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher.” On Tuesday in Los Angeles.
