A Marine who died after being struck by a car on the San Diego Freeway early Saturday has been identified as Marcus Manning, stationed at Camp Pendleton.
Manning, a 23-year-old native of Washington state, was walking down the center of the southbound side of the freeway in San Juan Capistrano shortly before 4 a.m., when he was hit by a car traveling about 65 mph.
Orange County coroners had not determined a precise cause of death Sunday, but Manning flew across several lanes after being struck.
The coroner’s office was unsure Sunday of Manning’s rank. Military authorities were unavailable for comment.
