Cal Grant Applicants Get Extension

Share

Thousands of prospective California college students have until May 11 to correct errors on financial aid applications to receive money from a new state financial-aid program that covers tuition costs at state institutions.

About 26,000 graduating seniors have been sent letters telling them to correct problems on financial-aid applications by May 11 to qualify for the new state “Cal Grants.”

Last year, California overhauled its Cal Grant program to make financial aid for a college an entitlement to needy students who meet minimum grade thresholds. The program targets poor and moderate-income students.

As many as 49,000 grants may still be doled out. To correct their applications, students may call the Student Aid Commission at (916) 526-7590.
