Razor Blades Found at Third Costa Mesa Park

Share

Razor blades were found this week at a third Costa Mesa neighborhood park, authorities said.

“We do feel that they’re all related,” Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney said of the razor blades, first reported by parents and baby-sitters in late March. “It’s just vigilance on the parents’ part and luck that no one’s been injured. But it’s just going to be a matter of time if this continues.”

In the latest incident, single-edge blades were found in sand boxes and slides at Lions Park on 18th Street at Park Avenue, Birney said. The park is about half a mile from Pinkley and Heller parks, where blades were discovered in March and mid-April.

City workers posted warning signs at Lions Park on Wednesday, a day after police brought out bloodhounds to sniff the area. The dogs picked up a scent that led to Heller Park, officials said, but the search did not find any suspects.

Police and city employees have stepped up enforcement and visual inspection at all of the city’s 29 parks, Birney said. “We’re handling this very aggressively.”
