From Times Staff Reports

A man was shot to death Wednesday on the shoulder of the westbound 105 Freeway and the four men spotted standing over his body then hopped into two vehicles and sped away, authorities said.

Investigators closed a 2-mile section of the westbound lanes for several hours, creating a massive rush-hour traffic jam.

The victim, a Latino ages 30 to 35, was not identified. He was shot on the freeway, about 100 yards east of Normandie Avenue, said Sheriff’s Deputy Rich Pena.

At 4:10 p.m., motorists called 911 and reported that they had heard gunshots and saw four men standing over a victim on the right shoulder of the freeway, Pena said.

The suspects then entered two vehicles and sped off on the freeway. The vehicles were described as a black Chevrolet or GMC pickup and a tan Ford Contour. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and died at the scene, Pena said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
