Man Injured Fighting Townhouse Blaze
A resident was hospitalized Tuesday after he tried to battle a fire that gutted his two-story townhouse and caused $170,000 in damage, officials said.
Bob Bryant, 24, was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and second-degree burns to his right foot and left hand, authorities said.
The fire, which started about 9:30 a.m., apparently was caused by a candle near a bed in an upstairs room, said John Blauer of the Newport Beach Fire Department.
Nineteen firefighters fought the blaze in the 300 block of Otero, authorities said.
