5.5 Quake Hits Close to Reno; No One Injured

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked a mostly rural area of Plumas County in Northern California on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There was neither damage nor injuries in the 1:19 p.m. quake centered nine miles west of the town of Portola in the Mohawk Valley fault zone. It was felt mildly in both Sacramento, 85 miles southwest of the epicenter, and Reno, 50 miles southeast. The depth of the quake was nine miles.

The Geological Survey said it was the strongest quake in California this year.
