From Times Wire Reports

Thirteen pandas in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan are likely to give birth in the next few months, the official New China News Agency reported.

“According to our experience, 50% of them could be twins, and so there may be 13 to 20 new members in the panda family soon,” Zhang Anju, director of the Giant Panda Breeding Technology Committee of China, told the agency.

Pandas, found only in China, are an endangered species, with only about 1,000 left in the wild. Nine pregnant pandas in captivity in Chengdu, the provincial capital, have been moved to an air-conditioned delivery room. Four others at Wolong Nature Reserve are also expected to produce cubs.
