Films from around the globe highlight the Laemmle Theatres’ World Cinema 2001, beginning Saturday. The Polish film “Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease,” by director Krzysztof Zanussi, about a physician thrown into an existential crisis when he learns he is dying of cancer, opens the six-film series. Each film screens for one weekend at the Sunset 5 before moving to the Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica the next weekend. Other films include “A Love Divided,” from Ireland; “Simon Magus,” from Hungary; “Sasayaki,” from Japan; “Restless,” from Finland; and “Faraw! Mother of the Dunes,” from Mali.

She’ll also show off a collection of live specimens and other interesting bug stuff.
