* Bimbo Bakeries USA said it will close its Los Angeles bakery and lay off 220 workers. The U.S. subsidiary of Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo got the 1920s-era bakery when it bought Four-S Baking Co. in 1999. Bimbo finally concluded that the facility is too old, spokesman David Margulies said. The layoffs will happen within the next 60 days and affect only the bakers; accountants and other administrative posts will remain, Margulies said. Production will expand at Bimbo’s Escondido and La Mirada bakeries and at its tortilla plant in Sacramento. Bimbo Bakeries USA is based in Fort Worth.
