County firefighters fought for more than 90 minutes Monday to contain a blaze that burned 30 to 35 acres of brush, injuring five people and leading to the evacuation of more than 100 people, officials said.

The fire was reported about 3:15 p.m. on the 39600 block of 87th Street West, southwest of Palmdale, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Edward Osorio. By 5 p.m., more than 150 firefighters and four water-dropping helicopters had contained the blaze, which threatened 15 homes but destroyed just two storage sheds.

Three firefighters and two other people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and heat exposure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
