From Times Staff Reports

Engine trouble forced a pilot to make a crash-landing Friday night on a field in Somis, authorities said Saturday.

Pilot Michael Freeman, 56, of Rancho Cucamonga, and passenger Walter Brand III, 59, of Somis, were not injured in the 6:30 p.m. incident in the 5200 block of Kingsgrove Drive, authorities said.

Freeman’s Ryan PT-22 airplane sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene. Freeman told sheriff’s deputies the plane’s engine stalled en route to Camarillo Airport and that he was unable to restart it.
