Murderer Flees Prison in Back of 18-Wheeler
A convicted murderer escaped from South Carolina’s maximum security prison by hiding in a cargo trailer and cutting his way out once it left the prison, authorities said.
Anthony Brown, 30, was discovered missing during a routine count at the Lieber Correctional Institute at Ridgeville, said Charlie Sheppard, inspector general for the state Correction’s Department.
Prison officials think Brown crawled into the tractor-trailer while it was parked inside the prison gates about 6 p.m. Friday.
Brown has been serving two life sentences since his 1988 conviction.
