From Times Wire Reports

Madera County signed an agreement with the Chukchansi Indian tribe for a $150-million casino near Coarsegold, between Fresno and Yosemite National Park.

The Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 Tuesday with one member absent to approve the “memorandum of understanding” with the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi tribe.

Madera County’s approval isn’t needed; that authority falls to the National Indian Gaming Commission in Washington, D.C. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2002 on 48 acres of reservation land just off California 41.
