The top five injuries or illnesses in Steve Elkington’s pro career:
1. Allergic to grass, 1986; sinus problems in 2001 forced him to withdraw from The Players Championship, the U.S. Open, plus Buick Classic after two rounds.
2. Meningitis, 1999, out six months.
3. Hip surgery, 2000, played only 17 tournaments, 154th on money list, lowest in 14-year career.
4. Shingles, 1999, related to his four bouts with meningitis.
5. Sinus surgery, 1994, missed part of season, but came back to tie for seventh at PGA Championship (which he would win in 1995) and win the Buick Southern Open.
