Cold Comforts in Yosemite

New Year’s Eve should be a cool one for families on a tour to snowy Yosemite National Park. The Dec. 28-to-Jan. 1 trip includes cross-country skiing, a New Year’s Eve party, brunch at the Ahwahnee Hotel on New Year’s Day and other outings in the park.

Cost: $295 for adults, $150 for the first child and $50 for each additional child, including a cabin with a bathroom, cross-country ski lessons, guides and brunch. Transportation to the park is extra.

Louisiana: Bayou Way

The Cajun coast and New Orleans are highlights of a seven-day trip to Louisiana offered by Great Western Tours, starting Feb. 3, before Mardi Gras celebrations.

Cajun country stops will be in Lafayette, the Atchafalaya swamp, New Iberia and Houma and its shrimping community. In New Orleans, visitors will stay three nights at a luxury hotel and take a city tour.

France: Cruise

Cruise into French cities on a WOW Tours cruise on the Rhone River in the Burgundy and Provence regions.

From May 19 to 26, passengers will cruise on an 80-passenger riverboat during the day (with shore excursions) and dock in cities overnight. An optional stay in the port city of Marseilles is available from May 16 to 19, before the cruise, along with a tour of the historic walled fortress in Carcassonne. Overnight accommodations will be at the Hotel dela Cite, within the fortress walls. The Marseilles stay costs $475 per person. A three-night extension to Paris is available from May 26 to 29 for $525 per person, double occupancy, including accommodations, sightseeing, transportation and breakfast.

Alaska: Glaciers

Alaska’s Inside Passage has rain forests and meadows, glacial valleys and ice-sculpted mountains that rise thousands of feet, and passengers will be able to see much of the 1,700-mile coastline on a cruise from June 21 to July 2. Zodiac boats will ferry passengers from the Spirit of Oceanus through narrow inlets to visit the small island communities of native Alaskans. Other stops include Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, Denali National Park, Prince William Sound and Glacier Bay. Cost: $8,195 per person in a shared cabin. Air fare to Vancouver, Canada, is extra.

Baja: Eco-boat

Searcher Natural History Tours has a 95-foot vessel that takes guests along the Baja coast and the Gulf of California to look for gray whales, dolphins and sea lions and to explore around small islands. Five trips are scheduled this winter and spring: Feb. 2 and 17 and March 3, 17 and 29. Tours last eight to 12 days. The trip ends in Cabo San Lucas.

Australia: All Over

Mark 19 days off the calendar for an extensive Australian tour, which journeys from Sydney to Canberra to Melbourne to Ayers Rock to Alice Springs to Cairns and Darwin. Tourgoers will visit the Great Barrier Reef.

India: Cuisine

Learn the secrets of Indian cuisine on a Fantastic Journeys tour to South India. Participants will spend the first day cruising on a houseboat while chefs demonstrate how to make dishes using fresh fish, coconuts and fragrant spices that grow in Kerala. On the way to Thekkady wildlife preserve, the tour will pass spice plantations, then go to Goa.

The tours are 10 days long and run year-round.

The National Institute of Art and Disabilities is hosting a winter trip to New York City to coincide with the Outsider Art Fair. The tour runs Jan. 22 to 27. Tourgoers will spend six nights at the Plaza Hotel and tour the Henry Luce II Center for the Study of American Culture at the New-York Historical Society.
