From Times Staff Reports

Ventura County supervisors will no longer receive extra pay for serving on civic boards and commissions.

Supervisors voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to serve without pay when appointed to transit or retirement panels or other boards.

The move was prompted by Supervisor Steve Bennett, who said taxpayers expect supervisors, who earn $85,000 a year, to perform those duties as part of their job.

Supervisor John Flynn of Oxnard dissented. Flynn said he works hard as a member of the county’s assessment appeals board and is entitled to extra pay.

Officials estimate the county will save $4,800 this year as a result of the decision.
