The Muslim Public Affairs Council is planning several interfaith events to celebrate the breaking of the daylong fast observed during the holy month of Ramadan.
Kicking off a new dialogue with Japanese Americans, Muslims will hold a fast-breaking iftar at 4 p.m. today at Senshin Buddhist Temple, 1311 W. 37th St., Los Angeles.
The event, organized by the Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress September 11 Committee, will feature prayer, poetry, cultural performances and a potluck dinner.
Muslim officials will speak on Ramadan and Senshin Rev. Masao Kodani will explain how Japanese American Buddhists were harassed after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Information: (323) 665-5616.
Other iftars include a joint celebration at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Temple Beth David, 9677 Longden Ave., Arcadia, and at 4 p.m. Friday at All Saints Church, 132 N. Euclid Ave., Pasadena. All Saints Rev. Ed Bacon and a group of church members have been fasting during Ramadan in solidarity with Muslims. Information: (213) 383-3443.
