* New This Week: John Cameron Mitchell wears several hats (but mainly a wig) in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” adapted from his hit off-Broadway rock musical. As star, writer and director, Mitchell spins the tale of a gender-confused East Berliner (born Hansel) who endures a botched sex change operation to marry a U.S. GI but winds up a lonely hausfrau in a Kansas trailer park. Re-christened Hedwig, she resiliently pours her story into songs for her pan-Slavic rock band, the Angry Inch, and becomes an “internationally ignored” singer.
Also new in stores this weekend: “Rush Hour 2,” “Jurassic Park III,” “The Score” and “The Basket.”
