Preserving Ahmanson Ranch
Thank you, city of Calabasas, for your efforts to save Ahmanson Ranch! Ahmanson Ranch as a park will provide hiking, jogging and biking for Greater Los Angeles. Los Angeles is the most park-poor metropolitan area in the nation. If this headwaters ranch is preserved for future generations, Ahmanson Park would be a much larger wilderness area than Griffith Park.
Unlike any other place in the Santa Monica Mountains zone, pristine Ahmanson Ranch has four species that are protected under the Endangered Species Act. In addition, Ahmanson Ranch has two unique ecosystems: the valley oak savanna and 400 acres of California native grasslands, of which only 0.1% remains statewide.
Developer Washington Mutual has failed to reveal its huge loss in the legal arena. It tried to shut down the https://www.ahmanson.org Web site and failed in this bid to stifle our free speech. These dedicated people--Eve and Paul Wagner of the West Valley, David Weeks of Agoura Hills and Ed Masry of Thousand Oaks--stopped Washington Mutual in this legal battle. The Web site tells the real and true story of the Ahmanson Ranch saga.
