You Could Be a Starlet

If jockey Alex Solis isto win the $200,000 Hollywood Starlet for a second consecutive year, he will have to do it with a longshot.

Renaissance Woman will be the fourth choice in a field of five in the Grade I, but Solis took the race last year with another outsider, I Believe In You, the 5-1 third choice.

Realistically, however, the Starlet figures to be dominated by You and Habibti.

You won the Adirondack at Saratoga and the Frizette at Belmont Park, then was fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Seventh in the Breeders’ Cup, Habibti was impressive in her first two starts for trainer Bob Baffert. She won a maiden race and the Del Mar Debutante and has trained well for her return.

Race of the day: The $500,000 Champion of Champions, the 13th of 15 races tonight at Los Alamitos, brings together defending world champion A Ransom, the brilliant female Corona Kool and Tailor Fit, the 1999 world champion. A field of 10 will go in the 440-yard race as Los Alamitos concludes its meet.

Who’s hot: Fairway Foe. The 7-year-old Theatrical gelding has won two of his last three and he is a horse for the course at Hollywood Park. A win in today’s second would be his sixth in nine tries in Inglewood.

Who’s not: Winona. The Brocco filly has been a bust in four races in California and Texas, so she drops in class as she makes her Fair Grounds debut in today’s fourth.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Yetanothernatalie, Beauty Contest and Rich Musique in the seventh, The Price Spirit, Reduit and Little Ghazi in the eighth, singling Habibti in the ninth and using Shared View, Gray Hawk and Peak At You in the 10th.
