For Your Nails Only

James Bond didn’t get that rakish but seemingly effortless grooming by accident. For his holiday nail care, he might consider the “Shaken, Not Stirred” martini manicures at the Paint Shop in Beverly Hills. Julie Serquinia, the salon’s owner, has developed for the holidays three cocktail-inspired aromatherapy treatments: edible (for the record) eggnog, cosmopolitan cranberry and green-apple martini--all served in an oversized martini-glass hand bath or, for the pedicure option, in a heated foot bath.

On weekends, Serquinia’s husband, Domingo, bakes up batches of his everything-but-the-kitchen-sink cookies. He’s also designed plush, roomy pine chairs to disappear in while the manicurist whips up a therapeutic concoction in a silver cocktail shaker.

For nails stained from too many coats of red, the cosmo mix is a good bet; its lime garnish does double duty as a nail bleach, while the cranberry oil softens and smooths. The lactic acid in the eggnog remedy (sprinkled with swirls of nutmeg) softens even the most challenging of calluses, and for aesthetes, there’s the prospect of green apple slices floating around one’s ankles. “Cocktails” may be followed up with a polish from a holiday line of festive colors, such as Very Merry Cherry, Gold Lange Syne and Yule Love the Silver.

With manicures at $20 and pedicures at $30, the “Shaken, Not Stirred” experience offers a way to indulge in a holiday cocktail without the hangover or the guilt.
