The Silicon Valley Urgency Fund has awarded $2 million to 38 regional nonprofit organizations. Each received a grant of $5,000 to $175,000.

EBay co-founder Jeff Skoll initiated the fund in October with a grant of $2.5 million. It was an effort to persuade others to help nonprofits suffering a drop in donations because of the Sept. 11 attacks and the recessed economy.
