Chicago’s Thibault Stops Detroit, 2-0

Jocelyn Thibault stopped 28 shots, and Alexei Zhamnov and Mark Bell scored to lift the Chicago Blackhawks over the Detroit Red Wings, 2-0, Monday night at Detroit.

Thibault’s second shutout this season and 23rd of his career helped Chicago extend its unbeaten streak at Joe Louis Arena to seven games (5-0-2).

The loss ended Detroit goalie Manny Legace’s unbeaten streak at 19 (17-0-2).

The shutout was the second in a row for the Red Wings.

Tampa Bay 4, Montreal 3--Martin St. Louis scored twice, including the go-ahead goal 52 seconds into the third period, at Montreal.

Vincent Lecavalier and Ben Clymer scored for Tampa Bay.

Sheldon Keefe, Vaclav Prospal and Stan Neckar each had two assists for the Lightning.

Brian Savage tied the score, 3-3, with his 11th goal 11:34 into the second period.

New York Rangers 4, Florida 2--Petr Nedved scored two goals for the Rangers at New York.

Mark Messier broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with his seventh goal.

San Jose 4, Dallas 1--Teemu Selanne scored twice at Dallas and the Sharks stretched their unbeaten streak to nine games.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 21 shots for the Sharks, who won their fifth in a row. They have eight victories and a tie in their run.

Phoenix 4, Columbus 1--Sergei Berezin’s second-period goal was the game-winner at Phoenix.

Sean Burke stopped 24 shots for the Coyotes, who also got goals from Teppo Numminen, Ladislav Nagy and Daymond Langkow.

Forward Donald Brashear was traded by the Vancouver Canucks to the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Jan Hlavac and two draft picks in 2002.
