Witness Says Ex-DeKalb Sheriff Plotted Hit
DeKalb County Sheriff Sidney Dorsey began planning to kill his successor days after losing to him in an election, making sure he had an alibi and promising four hit men cushy jobs in his department as a reward, a former deputy testified.
Former deputy Patrick Cuffy said he met with Dorsey 25 to 30 times to discuss details of the killing. He said the sheriff wanted to make sure he was in a public place when the killing took place.
Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown was shot Dec. 15, 2000, after a campaign in which he pledged to clean up corruption in the sheriff’s office.
Dorsey, who was home at the time of the killing, has said he had nothing to do with Brown’s death.
