I have a question for Randy Hoffman, entrepreneur candidate for Ventura County supervisor in District 2: If he is truly for slow growth, as his campaign literature claims, why is he running against the slow-growth leader, [Thousand Oaks] Councilwoman Linda Parks?

I think I know the answer: Randy Hoffman can’t win on his true platform.

He knows that voters in this district are for slow growth, so he needs to say things like he’ll preserve open space and oppose Ahmanson Ranch. Hoffman has already flip-flopped on Ahmanson, though, saying he doesn’t know how he’ll vote on it.

He figures that two out of three people voted for growth control initiatives in the last election, so he says he was a “backer of SOAR.” He was actually more like a back-a-wayer! In his failed bid for the 24th [Congressional] District, he said that SOAR was a nonissue.

He claims that he’ll protect our tax dollars, while adding to his already $800,000 debt from his last campaign. Doesn’t he understand that in Ventura County, elections can’t be bought?

But I guess that’s another question.
