Bondra Scores in the Nick of Time

Peter Bondra scored with 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Washington Capitals to a 4-4 tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at Washington.

Robert Lang, Stephane Richer, Kris Beech and Alexei Kovalev had goals for the Penguins.

Jaromir Jagr, Adam Oates and Chris Simon scored for the Capitals.

Jagr’s goal early in the second period was his first against the Penguins, who traded him to the Capitals in July after 11 seasons at Pittsburgh.

Ottawa 1, New Jersey 0--Mike Fisher scored midway through the second period and Jani Hurme stopped 23 shots at East Rutherford, N.J., for his fourth career shutout.

It was Ottawa’s first goal in 119:30 against Martin Brodeur and New Jersey.

Boston 4, New York Islanders 2--Glen Murray had a goal and an assist, and defenseman Kyle McLaren had two assists for the Bruins at Uniondale, N.Y.

Byron Dafoe stopped 24 shots for his 16th victory. Boston has picked up points in three consecutive games (2-0-0-1).

Toronto 3, Buffalo 2--Alexander Mogilny scored and had two assists at Toronto.

Gary Roberts scored the go-ahead goal for the Maple Leafs.

Darcy Tucker had two assists for the Maple Leafs, who have won six of eight.

James Patrick and Rhett Warrener scored for the Sabres, who have one victory in their last eight games.

Dallas 4, Columbus 2--Richard Matvichuk jammed in a pass from Pierre Turgeon for the go-ahead goal at Columbus, Ohio.

Goaltender Ed Belfour stopped 27 shots to end a three-game skid.

The loss was the third in a row for the Blue Jackets, the lowest-scoring team in the NHL with 66 goals in 36 games.

Mike Modano, playing in his 900th game, had an empty-net goal in the final minute. It was the 399th of his 13-year career.

St. Louis 2, Florida 0--Keith Tkachuk and Cory Stillman scored fewer than two minutes apart early in the third period at Sunrise, Fla.

The victory was the Blues’ second in their last 13 road games and first in their last six.

Brent Johnson made 17 saves to earn his third shutout this season.

Roberto Luongo stopped 38 of 40 shots.

Philadelphia 4, Carolina 3--Mark Recchi scored his second goal of the game 27 seconds into overtime at Philadelphia.

Jeremy Roenick pulled the Flyers even at 12:04 of the third period. Simon Gagne also scored for the Flyers.

Sean Hill, Darren Langdon and Sami Kapanen scored for the Southeast Division-leading Hurricanes.

Minnesota 2, Vancouver 1--Wes Walz scored the winner with 4:16 left in the third period at Vancouver, Canada.

Sergei Zholtok also scored and Manny Fernandez stopped 28 shots for the Wild.
