Ball Field May Contain Hazardous Waste

State regulators say they are considering digging up a ball field on a former air base to investigate reports that hazardous waste may have been dumped into a swamp there 50 years before.
Retired Army Lt. Col. John von Erbsen told investigators last summer that he remembered “dump trucks used to pick up oil, paint, grease and anything else that they were cleaning out for the hangars on the flight line and dump it into this swamp.”
