New Family of Squids Found Deep in Ocean
Researchers have found a new family of squids that live in the frigid, dark waters of the deepest parts of the ocean, as much as 3 miles below the surface. A team from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported in the Dec. 21 issue of Science that the animal has a small head topped by large, fleshy, collar-like fins. Extending from the base of the head are 10 wispy limbs sweeping out for as much as 20 feet.
