Program for Editing DVD Films Is Released
The first of several software programs that allow home movie watchers to edit objectionable material from their DVDs has been released.
A program by Los Angeles-based ClearPlay can cut questionable scenes and dialogue on the fly while a movie is playing on a computer DVD-ROM.
ClearPlay editors go through individual movies to identify content that contributes to a movie’s PG-13 or R rating. The objectionable content generally falls under the categories of graphic violence, gore, profanity and sexual content.
When a user activates ClearPlay on a DVD player, the ClearPlay files tell the player how to present the movie so objectionable content is skipped or muted during playback.
